Weekend Roundup Extended 4th of July Edition | Rocket City Mom ...

It?s almost the weekend and for so many reasons I am excited. First, although perhaps not most importantly, Magic Mike opens this weekend (are you with me ladies?). Second, for many lucky souls it?s the start of a VERY LONG weekend. Finally, there is a crazy amount of free and cheap family fun coming your way. As always, our list is just the beginning so check out our Calendar, our Yard Sale Listings, and our Farmer?s Market page for more info about all that is happening in the Tennessee Valley this long weekend.

On behalf of all of us at RCM we hope you have a joyous and SAFE 4th of July.

01

Thursday, June 28: The NEEMA International Performing Arts Center is dedicated to providing the North Alabama Area with cultural diversity in dance and musical instruction. Join them at the Monrovia library from 1-2 PM.

02

Friday, June 29: Are you a big fan of Glee? Then you might just LOVE this performance by about 100 local children from ages 5-18 who have rehearsed all week and are ready to ?Show Off? for an audience. Join them for an hour and a half of song and dance at Huntsville High School?s auditorium from 12-1:30 PM. Admission is FREE.

03

Thursday-Saturday, June 28-30: I?ve waxed poetic about this event last year and again this year. It?s just that much fun and such a great throwback to a time when the entire community would get together at a local fair to raise money for a great cause and just have a lot of fun. As the name implies, all rides are for the little ones and just like the days of yesteryear, one $.50 ticket will get them on the ride.

04

Saturday, June 30: The city of Athens will hold its fireworks show on June 30 at Athens High School at dusk. The show is FREE. For a schedule of events, see the city of Athens website.

05

Sunday, July 1: Flint River Baptist Church is planning ?the largest fireworks show in North Alabama? along with an entire day of FREE games and rides for kids of all ages. Not to mention there will also be live music. Gates open at 3:30 PM.

06

Wednesday, July 4th:Visit the U.S. Space & Rocket Center for Huntsville?s largest fireworks display and July 4th celebration! Bring the whole family and enjoy delicious food, patriotic entertainment and breathtaking fireworks. Get your picture taken with Lady Liberty, build your own rocket and even experience Space Shot! 07

Wednesday, July 4th: Normally, Bridge Street doesn?t allow fishing in their lake but the lake has become overpopulated with bass and bluegill. So ? they?ll host a fishing rodeo! It?s from 11 AM to 1 PM ? live bait only. You can bring bait or buy it there. Bring fishing poles, too. Click the link above for more info.

08

Wednesday, July 4th: The City of Madison will hold its July 4th Celebration at Dublin Park from 2 PM- 10 PM. Entrance and all activities are FREE. Inflatables ? including a water slide ? for the kids will be available from 2PM ? 7PM. Fireworks are scheduled to start at 8:45 PM.

Wednesday, July 4th: The fun starts up in Decatur?s Point Mallard Park at 4 PM with the Children?s Bike Parade. There will also be a children?s area with face painting, inflatables and balloons from 4PM- 7PM. Live entertainment, activities, and games will be going on all afternoon, with the fireworks show beginning at 10 PM.

10

Wednesday, July 4: What?s more American than spending the 4th at a ball game with your family? How about a ball game that ends in a giant fireworks show? That?s exactly what you?ll get this Wednesday if you attend the Stars vs. Chattanooga Lookouts. Parking is $4, general admission is $8, kids 12 and under are $5.

As always, click on the orange titles to visit a link with more information about the listed event and please feel free to leave anything you see we?ve missed in the comment section for your fellow Rocket City Moms.
